Büyükelçinin Mesajı

I have the honour to have assumed my position as the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Turkey to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on 23 February 2020.

The establishment of the Permanent Mission on 24 July 2015 is a crucial step by Turkey, as one of the founders and an active member of the Organization, in the context of its efforts to take the Organization further and to provide thorough and effective solutions to the needs of the Islamic World.

The Organization was established by the decision taken during the Islamic Summit held on 22-25 September 1969, in the aftermath of the arson of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, which is the third holy shrine of Muslims located in Al-Quds. The headquarters of the Organization was determined, by the same Summit, as Jeddah until Al-Quds is liberated.

In addition to the efforts towards liberation of Palestine and Al-Quds, which has been its main cause, the Organization also maintains its relevance and importance with its ongoing efforts and achievements in many domains such as economy, commerce, technology, culture, education, human rights, combatting Islamophobia and religious intolerance, empowering rights of women and children in Islamic World, protecting the rights of Muslim minorities, providing humanitarian aid to refugees and supporting development programs in the Member States.

Turkey, with a view to contributing to international peace, stability, security and prosperity at regional and global level, particularly in brotherly Islamic countries, has advanced its proactive and positive role it has been playing all the while, by the efforts of the Mission in the last five years.

The Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (COMCEC), one of the four Permanent Committees of the Organization and the decision-making body in the field of economic and commercial issues at the Ministerial level, is chaired by the President of the Republic of Turkey. Turkey also hosts two subsidiary organs of the Organizations, namely Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Center (SESRIC) and Research Center for Islamic History, Art and Culture (IRCICA). The Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC), OIC Broadcasting Regulatory Authorities Forum (IBRAF), Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum (ICYF), as other OIC organs, also operate in very important fields of cooperation in Turkey. OIC Arbitration Center, OIC Police Cooperation and Coordination Centre and OIC Media Forum will also operate in Turkey after the finalization of their establishment process. Therefore, Turkey comes to the fore as one of the leading countries to host the organs/institutions of the Organization.

Turkey contributed to the progress of the Organization during its able and effective Islamic Summit Chairship, which started with the 13th Islamic Summit held in Istanbul on 14-15 April 2016 and ended with the 14th Islamic Summit held in Mecca on 31 May 2019. Turkey, during its chairship, also hosted two extraordinary Summits and one extraordinary Executive Committee meeting pertaining to the Quds Al-Sharif and Palestinian Cause, and one emergency Executive Committee meeting following the terrorist attacks on two mosques in New Zealand on 15 March 2019.

The primary objectives the Permanent Mission is going to follow throughout my term of office are to continue our active participation to the Organization's programs and activities, to support the institutional capacity of the Organization, to maintain our level of preparedness and determination to take initiative whenever needed and to further our cooperation and solidarity with the Islamic world, in political, economic, cultural, social and technical domains.

As the Permanent Mission, we will continue our activities in coordination with relevant national and international stakeholders in line with these objectives.
